They hang on the walls, stand tall on the ground, and dangle above our heads, making our living spaces unique and interesting. They are pieces of public art.
Public art can be found as paintings, photographs and sculptures in Ottawa City Hall other municipal buildings, open spaces, pedestrian corridors, roadways, and transit ways. There’s even poetry on OC Transpo buses. It expresses the character of our city and has the ability to turn public spaces into more human, social places. Art in public places beautifies the space and makes art accessible to everyone.
The City of Ottawa develops, exhibits and manages an art collection, with a focus on works by local artists. The collection is acquired by purchase or commission and is displayed throughout our community.
